Arizona hosted its first evening practice of the spring on Saturday and branded it "Desert Night Lights."Â
Saturday was the Wildcats' only evening session this spring besides the Red-Blue Spring Showcase in two weeks.
With former UA star and NFL-bound receiver Tetairoa McMillan in attendance, Arizona held a 19-period practice under the lights at Arizona Stadium. Here are notes and takeaways from Saturday's practice, which concluded Week 3 of spring ball:Â
* Arizona's starting defense in one of its team periods has defensive end Tre Smith, Cerritos College (California) transfer defensive tackle Leroy Palu, UT Martin transfer defensive tackle Deshawn McKnight, defensive end Dominic Lolesio, redshirt freshman linebacker Jabari Mann, linebacker Taye Brown, Texas transfer cornerback Jay'Vion Cole, cornerback Marquis Groves-Killebrew, Stanford transfer nickel back Jshawn Frausto-Ramos, strong safety Dalton Johnson and free safety Genesis Smith.

* Portland State transfer running back Quincy Craig had multiple chunk runs and has been among the standouts in the backfield this spring.
* In the second team period, Wisconsin transfer and potential backup Braedyn Locke stepped up into the pocket and launched a 47-yard touchdown pass over the middle to freshman receiver Isaiah Mizell, who is among Arizona's quickest receivers.
* Arguably Arizona's fastest receiver is Chattanooga transfer slot receiver Javin Whatley, who won essentially every rep against Johnson in a one-on-one drill. Whatley created separation in shorter routes and beat Johnson in deep routes.
* While defending slot receiver Luke Wysong, Groves-Killebrew intercepted quarterback Noah Fifita on a deep pass at the goal line.
* Kickers Michael Salgado-Medina and Cash Peterman swapped field goal reps. Salgado-Medina made his first attempt from 32 yards out on the right hash mark; he also made a 38-yarder down the middle. Peterman missed his 35-yarder from the right hash, but made his 44-yard attempt.Â
* Punt returner worked on catching punts while simultaneously holding another football. Punt returners were slot receiver Jeremiah Patterson, Washington State transfer receiver Kris Hutson, Whatley and Wysong.Â
* Redshirt freshman defensive back Quinn Olson intercepted Locke in the final team period.Â
* Fifita threw a slant to Wysong on third and 14 to pick up a first down. Fifita subsequently threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sam Olson (no relation to Quinn Olson).Â
* On the final drive, Arizona worked on hurry-up offense and ended practice with a 34-yard field goal by Salgado-Medina.Â
* Arizona hosted over 100 recruits on Saturday. The prospects in attendance for Saturday's practice were from Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas. Notable 2026 recruits include Las Vegas offensive tackle Dominic Harris, Phoenix Brophy receiver Daylen Sharper, Los Angeles-area tight end and wide receiver Andre Nickerson, Queen Creek tight end Bear Fisher and L.A.-area running back Victor Santino, among others. The 6-7, 335-pound Harris also has offers from Washington, Arizona State, Arkansas, Utah and Auburn, among others.Â
* Notable 2027 recruits in attendance were Gilbert Perry quarterback Kael Snyder, Oceanside, California offensive lineman Lincoln Mageo, Houston-area linebacker Cade Haug, Inglewood, California defensive tackles Myels Smith and Eli Harmon.Â
* Alcorn State transfer defensive end Malachi Bailey, redshirt junior wide receiver Chris Hunter III, San Jose State transfer cornerback Michael Dansby and Utah transfer Mike Mitchell were among the list of players not participating, but were on the sidelines in their jerseys and shorts.Â
